Esquire of Aldwark, Newton upon Derwent, Penistone, Stiveton in Sherburn, Yorkshire.

Son and heir to William Clarell and Elizabeth Reygate. Grandson of Sir Thomas Clarell and Isabel Comyn, and William de Reygate.

Husband of Matilda "Maud" Montgomery, daughter of Nicholas Montgomery who died in 1424. They had three sons and two daughters:
* Thomas
* John
* Robert
* Elizabeth, wife of Sir John Gresley
* Margaret, wife of John FitzWilliam & Sir Wm Gascoigne

In 1400, Thomas took a release of a croft (small farmland) in Tickhill from Thomas Johnson of Wadworth.

Thomas left a will dated 20 Nov 1441, proved 20 June 1442. Maud died after Thomas, and administration was granted to their son, John, on 17 March 1457.
