Gerald Otis Turner Sr. of 5645 Gates St., Royal Oak, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the age of 81. He was the son of the late Howard Otis and Harriett Turner
Gerald graduated from Moton High School in 1948. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and was an aircraft engineer. Upon discharge, he went to North Haven, Conn., and worked with his Uncle Henry using heavy equipment. He worked for Olin Winchester Fire Arms and Zimel Brothers Appliance. He formed his own company Turner Appliance & Repair. He owned and operated a Laundromat, as well as a body shop. He moved to Atlanta, Ga., where he and his brother, Maurice, formed a company called Bambi Construction. Three years later, he returned to North Haven, Conn., where he and his sons operated his own HVAC business until he retired in 1990, and returned to Bellevue to take care of his father. He taught many young men HVAC skills. His current company is T&T Lawn Cutting and Handyman Services LLC.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Audrey; his brother, Hilbert (Bill) Turner of Royal Oak; two sons and one daughter, Gerald Otis Jr., Howard and Susan; his first wife, Lucille; three stepchildren, Andre Speller, Cheryl Speller and Renee Baker; three grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas and Gabriel; 10 step-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and horseback riding. He was a member of Oriental Lodge #6 F&AM Prince Hall and was Past Worshipful Master (1974-1974)
Wake will be held from noon to 2 p.m., with services at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Union Baptist Church, 233 Glenwood Ave., Easton, MD 21601.
