Age 54, of Chicago, IL, passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2013. Born in Coatesville, PA and raised in Newark, DE, he was the loving son of the late Francis Hoffman and Dorothy (Stine) Hoffman of Biglerville, PA.
Frank graduated from Newark High School in 1976. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Public Communications from Shippensburg University in 1980 and was Press Secretary for the PA Department of Revenue, and Press Secretary to Governor Dick Thornburg from 1981 to 1985. Upon receiving his M.S. Degree in Advertising/Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University in 1986, Frank spent the majority of his career in account management roles at Ketchum Advertising in Chicago.
He was a loving brother, uncle and great uncle. Frank is survived by two sisters, Carol Conway and Patti Farrell, and their families; brother-in-laws David and Dan; nephews and nieces, Andrew, Mariah, Rachel, David, and Jared; grand-nephews and grand-niece, Douglas, Ava, and Ryan. His extensive research on family genealogy left one of his greatest legacies. Frank was an extraordinary friend, with a wide circle of cherished loved ones. He is also survived by his dear friend Herb Kirschner, the love of his life Andy Eklund, and his feline furbabies, Annie and Maggie.
Frank loved traveling and fulfilled the dreams of his beloved mother with a trip to Salzburg, Austria. His relationship with his nieces and nephews was a treasured source of joy for him. Upon their graduation from High School, Frank took nephew Andrew to Paris; niece Mariah to Ireland; niece Rachel to Rio de Janeiro; and was planning a trip to Spain with nephews David and Jared. He additionally traveled to more than 20 other countries, including Argentina, Australia, China, Denmark, Costa Rica, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Uruguay. His love of his life was contagious, enriching the lives of his family and friends beyond measure.
A kind and loving spirit, Frank was always generous with his time and laughter. His hugs were legendary, as were his muscular arms and shoulders. He had an astute wisdom and keen political mind, and enjoyed sharing in spirited and good-natured debate. Frank cherished caring for his mother in her later years, tutoring Eritrean children, and participating as an extra in the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He loved sports, working out at the gym, tending his garden, an occasional good circuit dance, and spending quiet evenings at home with his cats.
A celebration of Frank's life was held on Wednesday, February 6 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Chicago, IL. A service in PA was held on Saturday, February 9 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Church in Coatesville, PA, followed by interment at the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Cemetery in Parkesburg, PA.
