He served as executive assistant to U.S. Senator Monrad C. Wallgren, (1933 to 1945). On January 10, 1945, he was appointed as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Monrad C. Wallgren, serving until December 25, 1946. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in economic research and public relations. In 1949, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first and Eighty-second Congresses, serving until 1953. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was an owner of a transportation and manufacturing business. He also was the chairman, on the Committee for Washington State Tax Reform.
