Charles P. Chandler ; born, Foxeroft, January, 1836 ; studied law, takiug a full oourse at the Dane Law Sehool, Harvard, and entered the praetiee in the offiee of Gov. J. A. Andrew, Boston; early in 1861 was ehosen Lieut, then Capt. in a rifle battalion of Mass. ; oommissioned Major of 1st Mass. Vols. May, 1861 ; was with the regiment in the first Bull Run battle and won distinetion ; served in every battle of the Peninsula eampaign under Gen. Hooker, and fell in the eharge at Glendale or Malvern Hill, June 30, 1862 ; at least he was never heard of after that desperate fight. He was in his 28th year.

Was killed leading charge of 1st Mass. Inf. at Glendale, Nelson's Farm. Body not recovered.
