OBITUARY -- Henry Fischer
Henry Alexander Fischer, son of Victor and Malina Fischer was born in France on April 25, 1850, and passed away at his home in Republic on June 20, 1942, at the advanced age of 92 years, 1 month, and 27 days. He came, with his parents, to America when he was a small child, in the year 1856. Arriving in New York, they remained there for some time and, then, moved from state to state until, finally, they settled in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, where he resided for seven years.
He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Hunt, also of Reedsburg, on December 2, 1876. He remained there for some time, farming, and in 1884 he, with his wife and three small children, and father, mother, and brother came to Kansas and settled on the farm north of Republic, KS, where five more children were born, and which the youngest son, Raymond, now occupies.
In 1925, he purchased a home in Republic, KS, and, with his wife, moved there, remaining until his death.
Mr. Fischer was a hard-working man, coming here in the early days, and enduring the hardships and privation of these times, yet he acquired many acres of land in the Prairie Dell community. He was saving, but generous, always willing to help a neighbor in time of trouble. He was a familiar figure on the streets of Republic, where he was a friend to all.
Mr. Fischer was converted to the Methodist faith at a meeting held at the Newt Wood farm, north of Republic, many years ago.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his aged wife, and seven children : Fred Fischer of Belleville, KS, Victor J. Fischer of Hardy, NE, Edward of Republic, KS, Mrs. Elizabeth King of Ottowa, KS, Mrs. Ammie Hofts of Bryon, NE, Mrs. Nora Steinman of Ruskin, NE, and Raymond J. of Hardy, NE. A son, Herman, proceeded him in death, having lost his life with the fighting forces of America, in France, during World War II.
There are twenty-two grandchildren living, two having preceded him in death, thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Fred Fischer, of rural Hardy, NE., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Republic, conducted by the Rev. C. A. Fisher of Belleville Methodist Church. Internment will be in Lake Cemetery, north of Republic, KS
