He was born on December 10, 1915 in Louis Corners, WI, a son of the late John and Lillian (Markwardt) Theel. He attended school in Louis Corners.
On November 5, 1941, he married Ruth Raeder in Dubuque, IA. The couple farmed in Calumet county, Sheboygan County and for many years in the Town of Empire in Fond du Lac County, where he retired in 1982 and the couple then moved to Plymouth.
He was a self-motivated road construction worker and he worked on the Highway 41 and Highway 23 overpass, among other projects.
He was a devoted and avid gardener and many people from all over the country admired his yard work at his home. He won ribbons at the Sheboygan County Fair for his showmanship of flowers.
He attended the Fortress of Peace Church in Sheboygan Falls. He was a 4-H leader in Fond du Lac County. He was also dedicated to local and state politics.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, Plymouth; two daughters, Betty (George) Engel, New Holstein and Karen (Randy) Guell, Fond du Lac; one son, Dale (Lois) Theel,
Fond du Lac; 14 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; one brother, Harvey (Roma) Theel, Kiel; two brothers-in-law, Clarence (Wilnora) Reader, Sheboygan and Henry (Myrtle) Raeder, Plymouth; also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Elroy and on sister-in-law, Eleanor.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 5, 1997 at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. The Rev. George Hoffmann and the Rev. Richard Balken co-officiated. Burial took place in the Greenbush Cemetery in the Town of Greenbush.
