God's dear ones are gathering home. Death has again, the second time in a few short weeks, visited the home of our friend Wesley Christian and called Mother Christian home. She died July 31, 1885, aged 89 years, 5 months and 4 days. Father Christian died July 4, 1885, aged 90 years, less two days. Both were born in Virginia - he in Albemarle County, July 6, 1795, and she in Rockingham County, February 27, 1796. He was a son of James and Mary Christian, the surname of both his parents being the same; and she a daughter of William and Annie Moore [sic - Harwood] Wyley. They were married Dec. 24, 1816. She had joined the M. E. Church four year before their marriage, and he joined it the year following, so that she has been a member for 73 years and he for 68 years.
Father Christian and his motherly, venerable, good wife were early settlers in Missouri. Early in the spring of 1825 they removed from Kentucky to Missouri, locating first in Lincoln County and then, in two years, in Ralls County, where they resided until 1834, when then they came to what is now Shelby County; but then a part of Marion County.
As husband and wife, they were affectionate and devoted; as neighbors, they were kind and generous, and loved by all who knew them; as member of the church, faithful, consistent and useful; as Christians, earnest and steadfst; died as they had lived, in joyful hope of a blessed immortality beyond the grave.
Of the family of 11 children, of these only four are living, Elizabeth, the wife of J. Wooster; Marion, of Rutherford Co., Tex.; Walter K. of Moberly, Mo., and Charles Wesley who owns the old home place and who with his good wife lovingly and tenderly cared for father and mother Christian in their declining years. Their funeral will be preached by Rev. J. M. O'Brien, at the Bacon Chapel, Sunday, Aug. 9th.
