James R. Adair of Wheaton for 53 years.

A memorial service for James R. Adair, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave., West Chicago, IL 60185. Interment is private at Wheaton Cemetery. Born Feb. 2, 1923, in Asheville, N.C., he died Saturday, March 21, at home. Jim was an editor at Scripture Press Publications for more than 50 years. He was the editor of "Power Papers" which was regularly handed out at Sunday Schools across the nation. He wrote ten books, including "M.R. DeHaan: The Life Behind the Voice," and "Surgeon on Safari" (with Dr. Paul Jordan), and "The Man from Steamtown." He also edited the Pacific Garden Mission News monthly paper for more than 50 years. While with the mission, he also wrote "The Old Lighthouse" (a history of the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago). He was an elder at Wheaton Bible Church, where he also taught Jr. High Sunday School. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia; daughters, Mary and Martha Adair of Wheaton; and four Maltese grand-dogs and one Yorkie, Aspen, Snowball, Daisy, Callie, and Gracie. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sueanna Adair. Memorial gifts may be directed to the church, or to Pacific Garden Mission, 1458 S. Canal Street, Chicago IL 60607.
