Born Aug. 14, 1918, in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., he was the son of the late Dr. Arthur Camp Stanley Sr. and Alice Willard (Boyd) Stanley.
He attended Friends School in Washington, D.C., graduated from St. James School in 1938, and attended the University of Virginia.
He retired as a state roads inspector from the Maryland State Highway Administration, and also was employed by Fairchild Industries.
He was a member of Eagles Aerie 1758 of Waynesboro, Pa.; Eagles Aerie 1562 of Gettysburg, Pa.; Moose Lodge Chapter 1136 of Waynesboro; South Mountain Rod and Gun Club; Elks Lodge 731 of Waynesboro; and Redmen of Williamsport, Md.
He is survived by two daughters, Alys Willard Boyd Stanley of Riverside, Mich. and Holly Garrett of Hagerstown, Md.; a son, Arthur Camp Stanley III of Hagerstown; a sister, Katherine Menz of Blue Ridge Summit; grandchildren, Benjamin R. Chabot, Robert B. Chabot, Ramond V. Stanley, John R. Stanley, Richard D. Garrett Jr. and April L. Snider; great-grandchildren, Hunter L. Garrett and Stephen Camp Stanley; nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by a devoted friend, Ray Stottlemyer; and longtime caregiver and friend, Patsy Kirby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John C. Stanley and C. Willard Stanley; and by his longtime companion, Mildred Stottlemyer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Father Patrick Pierce will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
