Henry was a veteran of the War of 1812. However, this Henry Mayo was a hatter and baker. He should not be confused with his nephew Captain Henry Mayo., who was a steamboat captain on Lake Champlain.

On September 30, 1834, Henry purchased a farm of about 265 acres in Colchester and Essex from his brother Daniel. Henry sold the land again in two years.
