Vera was a very loving wife and mother. She was very deaf for a long period of her life. She cared for her husband Mark Penn for a number of years prior to his death in 1959. She entered a very unhappy marriage with Claude Richardson on 20th December 1960. She was divorced from Claude on 23rd May 1967 after leaving him very early in the marriage. She slowly slipped into dementia and was moved to a nursing home in Dorset where she could be visited regularly by her daughter Penny.
She was delighted to receive a visit from her eldest Australian grandson and his wife a few months before she passed away on 1st April, 1983. She was taken back to Twickenham to be buried in the same grave as her much loved first husband Mark Penn.
