Charles W. Curry, 91, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home Monday. He was formerly employed as a professional musician in New York City and Syracuse. While living in New York City during the Harlem Renaissance, he played with such Jazz greats at Louie Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Lionel Hampton. In 1941 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and shared his barracks with the heavy weight champion Joe Lois. (sic) He was a member of the American Legion Dunbar Post 1642, Syracuse Musicians Association and the Elks.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Dr. Charles T. Curry (Eugenia) of Slippery Rock, Pa. and Bruce D. "Booble" Curry of Syracuse; three grandchildren, Lea, Jason and Josh.
Services will be Friday 11 a.m. at Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, 515 Oakwood Ave. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be today 5 to 8 p.m. at Garland Bros. Funeral Home, 143 W. Castle St.
