SULPHUR-Aileen Mae Collins, of Sulphur, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
She was born in Oklahoma, August 8, 1917, the oldest of six children born to Myrtle E. and Jess James Smethers. At 16, she married Wilbur Allen Collins. They had one child and celebrated 50+ years of marriage before his death.
Aileen has lived in Sulphur the last 64 years, teaching Special Ed and practicing advanced skills in a large variety of arts and crafts . . . quilting, sewing, machine embroidery, painting, ceramics, and others.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Robertson Hadley, her brothers, Jess James Smethers, and Edwin Lewis Smethers and his wife, Noel. She is also survived by other family and friends that she loved dearly.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, April 5, at 2pm in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana. Burial will follow Friday, April 12, at 2pm in the Longwood Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
