Carroll Daily Herald - Monday, September 15, 1930 - W.C. Carlson, sr, north Adams street, Carroll was killed in the collision of his automobile with a heavy truck near the cemetery in Storm Lake at 5 this morning. His wife, the only other occupant of the car, is in serious condition at the Swallum hospital in Storm Lake.

Mr and Mrs Carlson had left Carroll early this morning on their way to attend the golden wedding anniversary of Mr Carlson's parents at Fergus Falls, MN. They had planned to get an early start in order to make the long drive in one day and left Carroll at 3 this morning.

The Carlson car and the meat truck struck head on at the outskirts of Storm Lake. A farmer who witnessed the accident called an ambulance and Mr and Mrs Carlson were rushed to the Swallum hospital in Storm Lake. Mrs Carlson who is reported to be in a serious condition, has a fighting chance to recover according to the attending physicians. She is still unconscious at noon today.

The driver of the truck told authorities at Storm Lake that he believed Mr Carlson failed to see his approach as the truck passed the brow of a hill. He said he swerved to the ditch in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid a collision.
