William H. Schaeffer, 85, of Pine Grove, passed away Wednesday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Pleasant Valley, Pine Grove, May 29, 1927, he was a son of the late William O. and Mary E. Baylor Schaeffer.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having last served with the USS Vermillion.

William had been employed as a miner for Pinag Coal Co. and then for Bethlehem Steel.

William was a life member of the Roedersville Game & Fish and a member of the Morris Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and loved helping his kids with their race cars.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Florence C. Breidigan Schaeffer, on July 2, 2001; eight brothers and seven sisters.

Surviving are his daughter, Nancy, wife of George Holland; grandson, Kevin and his wife, Pamela Holland; granddaughter, Shirley, wife of Gregory Clark, all of Pine Grove; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Holland and Chelcy Clark; two sisters, Gertrude Brown and Dollie Dubois, both of Pine Grove.
