Sarah Mirl Pope Murphy age 84 of Rainsville passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at her residence.

Her funeral service was held Saturday Jan. 5, 2013 at the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel, Rainsville, Alabama, with the Reverend David Martin officiating. Burial followed at Rainbow Memorial Gardens in Rainbow City, Alabama where she was laid to rest beside her husband of 55 years, James Edward Murphy.

She is survived by daughters Brenda Temple of Attalla, Kathie (Pete) Wiegert of Rainsville and Lynn Cook of Smyrna, Ga; son James D. Murphy of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Jimmie Lee Pope Oliver of Grove Oak; brother, James Richard & Nancy Pope of North Carolina; sister in law, Barbara Pope of Killeen, Alabama, 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mom was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church, and was a retired Postal Worker. She was preceded in death by her husband James Edward Murphy, son Ronald Wayne Murphy, parents James Oscar and Ella Mae LaMunyon Pope, stepmother Amsie Myrtle Peacock Harris Smith Pope, sisters Mable Willetta Trussell, Mallie Marie Isbell, Lois Ozella Hicks and Carrie Earlene Bailey, and brothers Wilburn Isaac Pope, Wilson Hobart Pope and Bobby Gerome Pope.
