George Elmon Brown Sr.

AMERICUS. George Elmon Brown Sr., 81, died Sunday in Macon. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2005, at Macon Memorial Park with the Rev. James Womack and the Rev. Mike Beck officiating. The family met with friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue and may be contacted at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Brown, 25 Creekview Drive, Lizella. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Heritage Church of God, P.O. Box 428, Americus, GA 31709.

Mr. Brown, husband of the late Ida Lillian Grant Brown, was born in Cordele, the son of the late George W. and Della Lee Jones Brown. He was supervisor of Plant Operations, retired from Georgia Southwestern College, and was a member of the Heritage Church of God. Mr. Brown was also a member of the Civitan Club of Americus and the Brickyard Golf Club in Leslie. He was preceded in death by his grandson Brent Brown, his daughter-in-law Mary Pope, and his sisters, Vera Spivey and Pearl Amerson, and his brother, the Rev. Monroe Brown.

Survivors include his sons, George E. Brown Jr. and Robert Keith (Shirley) Brown, all of Lizella, and Larry Newell Pope of Macon; his daughter, Gale (Mike) Yacobacci of Hillsboro; his brother and sister, the Rev. James Brown of Macon and the Rev. Ruby Patrick of Douglasville; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
