A prominent Limestone County resident, Mrs. R.M. Leonard, age 78, died at her home in the Cartwright community where she had lived for more than 60 years, on Thursday, October 15, following an illness of several months.

Mrs. Leonard was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Franklin Atkinson, one of the oldest families of Limestone County. She was prominent in education and church affair throughout her long and useful life.

Funeral service was held at Lebanon Methodist Church by Dr. Waites, pastor of the First Methodist Church in Athens. Interment was made in New Garden Cemetery with McConnell Service directing. The pallbearers serving were Messrs. George Witty, Homer Kyle, Gordon Tennison, Cullen Tennison, Johnny Hodges and Van Haney.

Surviving Mrs. Leonard are nine children: Mrs. Ed Baugher, Limestone County, Mrs. Luther Starkey, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Noah Leonard, Birmingham, Mrs. Dixie Smith and Mrs. John Tennison, Limestone County, Bonnie, Guy, Harry and V. M. Leonard, all of Limestone County.
