Wallace August Bailey, Sr. passed unexpectedly on April 4, 2013 at the age of 81. Born February 9, 1932 (Mardi Gras Day).

Son of the late August A. Bailey, Sr. and the late Alma Amelia Bailey.

Devoted and Loving Husband of Jewel Kabel Bailey. Brother of August A. Bailey, Jr. (Sharon). Brother in Law of Joseph L.. Kabel, Jr. and Lawrence S. Kabel. Proud Father of Wanda B. Morel (Ralph), Joan M. Bailey, Theresa J. Bailey, and Wallace A. Bailey, Jr. Grandfather (Poppa) of Ralph, III (Michelle), Stephanie (Joey), Joseph, Russell (Enjolie), Michael, Jr., Bryan (Shelly), and Katherine (Andrew). Great-Grandfather of Dylan, Taylor, Rhyan, Jonathon, Cici, Ramon, Katelyn, and Alysen.

Also survived by many friends and family.

Served during the Korean conflict .

Captain Wallace A. Bailey, Sr. was a highly decorated, dedicated firefighter for the city of New Orleans for over 30 years. After retirement he continued his association and support for Firefighters by participating on the Board of Trustees Firefighters Pension and Relief Fund. He was also President of the Police and Firemen Holy Name Society as well as an active member. A charter member of the International Association of Firefighters, New Orleans Firefighters Association Local 632, Wallace (Wally) participated in maintaining a strong local representation. Wally was also the coordinator for the annual Local 632 Christmas party, which provides a great event to New Orleans special needs children. He worked tirelessly assuring toys, food, and entertainment were provided to all guests. Wally also received the New Orleans Fire Department Superintendent's Award.

Viewing will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 3:00PM to 8:00PM and again on Monday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Mass will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
