Owensboro, KY — NANCY HOLLARS DENTON, 90, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Wellington Parc of Owensboro, Ky. She was born April 19, 1914, in Wayne County, Ky., to John William and Lola GIBSON HOLLARS.


In 1990, after the death of her husband, RALPH DENTON, NANCY moved to Owensboro and lived with assistance at One Parc Place for 4 1/2 years. When she was able, she attended the First Baptist Church of Owensboro, although her active membership remained with the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Somerset where she and RALPH married in 1939. NANCY moved into Wellington Park (for Alzheimer's patients) in January 1995 and resided there until her death.


She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William David and Ann PING DENTON of Paducah, and her daughter and son-in-law, Janet DENTON and Charlie PIERCE of Owensboro. Also surviving are four grandsons, Glenn David DENTON (and his wife, Heather HALLMARK) of Paducah, Matthew Hamilton DENTON of Paducah, Ryan Lee PIERCE (and his wife, Christine GUYER) of Chicago, and Andrew Denton PIERCE (and his wife, Neely WILLIAMS) of Evansville, Ind. In addition, NANCY is survived by four great-grandchildren, William David DENTON II and Grace Ann DENTON of Paducah, and Conner Lee PIERCE and Ayden Leah PIERCE of Evansville; and by her sister, Margaret HOLLARS LOVELESS of New Mexico; and her brother, Thurman Chyle HOLLARS of Indiana. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.


A private burial will be held Wednesday afternoon at The Somerset Cemetery. After interment, NANCY's family will receive guests for visitation at The Somerset Undertaking Company between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m.


The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions in NANCY's name to the First Christian Church of Somerset, 1115 N. Ky. 39, Somerset, KY 42501. Contributions may also be made to any other charity.

JOHN WILLIAM HOLLARS, 68, died Thursday [5 May] at the home of his sister, Miss Belle HOLLARS, in Bronston. He had been in declining health for six months. Only recently he returned to this county from Salem, Ind., where he had made his home for three years. He was the son of John and Eliza COLYER HOLLARS and was born near Quinton. He had engaged in farming for many years and was a popular and respected citizen. Mr. HOLLARS had been an active member of the Quinton Baptist Church since boyhood and actively supported all causes of the church. His wife was the former Miss Lola GIBSON. They were the parents of two daughters and three sons. Mr. HOLLARS was an indulgent and loving husband and father.


Funeral services were held at the Quinton Baptist Church Saturday afternoon [7 May] with the Rev. J.T. Dobbs officiating. Burial was in the Hollars family cemetery at Bronston. Masonic Lodge 624 of Burnside had charge of the services at the cemetery.


Surviving are his wife, Mrs. LOLA G. HOLLARS; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph DENTON and Mrs. Glen LOVELESS, Jr., of Somerset; three sons, Bynam and Harold HOLLARS of Salem, Ind., and Thurman HOLLARS of North Vernon, Ind.; two brothers, Dave HOLLARS of Bronston and Worth HOLLARS of Dayton, Ohio, and four sisters, Mrs. Albert OWENS of Burnside, Mrs. Nora CARRIGAN of Frazer and Mrs. Sam FLYNN and Miss Belle HOLLARS of Bronston.

Lorain — Mrs. LOLA EVA HOLLARS, 81, of Marion, Ind. died yesterday in the home of her cousin, Mrs. Nannie HAMMOND, 1670 School St., Lorain, after a long illness. She was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Hospital.


Mrs. HOLLARS, who had been visiting the past week at the home of a son, Thurman HOLLARS, in Amherst, had been making her home with another son, Harold HOLLARS, in Marion, Ind., since the death of her husband, WILLIAM, in 1948. She was a native of Wayne County, Ky.


Surviving is another son, Bynan HOLLARS of Marion, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph DENTON of Somerset, Ky. and Mrs. Glenn LOVELESS of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother and a sister.


The body was sent from the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, to the Somerset Undertaking Co., 111 North Main St., Somerset, Ky. Burial will be in Quinton, Ky.
