(KS) Narka News Dec. 21, 1917
Russell C. Preble, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Preble, of Agenda was the first soldier boy from Republic county to be called to his reward, having passed at Fort Pike, Arkansas, Sunday, Dec. 16, 1917. We understand death was caused from pneumonia.
Russell was about twenty-two years old, and was among Republic county's second quota of drafted men which were called to the training camps about two months ago.
Arrangements had been made to hold the funeral at Agenda at 10 o'clock Thursday, and burial in the Ida cemetery, but the body did not arrive, so different arrangement will be necessary.
