A. James Kearns, Jr. was born to A. James and Mildred Kearns on October 27, 1920, in Sanger, Ca. He graduated from Sanger Union High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Fleet on board the USS Indianapolis during World War II. Jim and Gladys, his wife of 70 years, lived in Fresno most of their lives; and moved to Bakersfield in April 2012, to be close to their son Rodney. The Lord called Jim home in his sleep on Monday, February 18, 2013. Our special thanks to ProCare Hospice for their loving care for Jim in his final weeks of life. After the war Jim worked as Service Manager for Garrett's Furniture in Fresno for 32 years before retirement in 1985. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #509, American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, Edison Social Club, Sanger Masonic Lodge #316 and the Moose Lodge. He was predeceased by sister, Dorothea Beck. Jim is survived by his wife Gladys; son, Rodney Kearns and his wife Peggy of Bakersfield; granddaughter, Dana Stamp and her husband Scott; and great-grandchildren Taylor and Samantha of Medford, Oregon. Interment will be at Bakersfield National Cemetery following a private family service.
