Elaine was born on the same morning that her maternal Grandmother Mrs. Henry Edward SUTTER (formerly Anne C. COWL) passed away! Elaine was the fifth of five children born to James Peter GARDNER JR. and Cecilia Joan SUTTER (h&w). While her parents and her four siblings had dark brown eyes and curly dark brown hair, Elaine was unique in that she was born with blue eyes and straight blonde hair; yes, such is genetically possible!

Elaine graduated from College of Wooster (Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio) with a Bachelors Degree. While she worked for the city Police Department in Ohio, Elaine especially enjoyed publishing the PD Newsletter. Elaine's travels included the 1974 World's Fair in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington and a visit with her cousin Mary GARDNER, Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington.

Mark R. MILLER and Elaine were married March 06 1982, in Franklin County, Ohio, and birthed two sons: Ryan and Russell. A homemaker, Elaine moved from Columbus, Ohio to Sunbury, Ohio in 1983. Elaine adored her sons and was always eager to hear how their day went and how school was going--both graduated from Ohio University (Athens, Athens County, Ohio).

Elaine was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and New Horizons Bible Study. Gardening at her home and at the church were pastimes she enjoyed, along with reading and bible study. Elaine was a very strong willed lady and a fighter throughout her illness, with a strong Catholic faith to support her.

Survived by her husband of 29 years, Mark, and sons Ryan MILLER of Grandview, Hamilton County, Ohio, and Russell MILLER of Sunbury, Delaware County, Ohio; brothers James GARDNER III of Strongsville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and Michael GARDNER of Hommerville, Medina County, Ohio; sisters Anne (Guy) GUTZMAN of Freeport, Harrison County, Ohio, and Mary Louise (late Keir) ODE-VIALA of Strongsville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio; one Aunt Evelyn UGYAN (late Leo John) GARDNER of Rocky River, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and 12 GARDNER cousins.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents, her maternal grandparents Henry Edward SUTTER (1872-1946) and Anne C. COWL (1872-1954) (h&w) of Crestline, Crawford County, Ohio; her paternal grandparents James Peter GARDNER SR. (1885-1950) and Catherine Rose GABRIEL (1886-1959) (h&w) of Shelby, Richland County, Ohio, and also cousin infant Lawrence GARDNER JR. (1932).

Prayer Service Monday evening at DeVORE-SNYDER Funeral Home, Sunbury, Ohio. Memorial Mass Tuesday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Sunbury, Ohio, with Fr. David SIZEMORE, Celebrant. Fellowship for family and friends in Church Social Hall after Mass. Family suggests contributions to Home Reach Hospice, Delaware, Delaware County, Ohio. Elaine's final resting place will be near her parents in the GARDNER-SUTTER Family Plot in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Cemetery (located in the community that was commonly known as "The Settlement), Shelby, Richland County, Ohio.
