Mrs. Angie Marshall Ashburn, age 86, of Mount Airy and wife of J. Wayne Ashburn, died on Sunday March 9, 2014 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.

Mrs. Ashburn was born October 28, 1927 in Surry County, the daughter of the late Jack and Clara Thacker Marshall.

Mrs. Ashburn was a loving mother and grandmother and the matriarch of the family just as her mother was to her.

Mrs. Ashburn was a graduate of Mount Airy High School in 1945 and she was proud to be captain of the Mount Airy High School women’s basketball team.

Surviving is her husband of 67 years, J. Wayne Ashburn of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert Hawks of Winston-Salem; her daughter-in-law, Natalie Ashburn of Tucson, Ariz.; one grandson, Wayne Hawks and his wife, Carman, of Raleigh; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Ashlyn Hawks of Raleigh.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ashburn was preceded in death by her son, Tom Ashburn.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday March 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Moody Funeral Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. The Ashburn family will visit with friends immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, 319 Rockford St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
