Dr. Horst N. Bertram, 82, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2005 in Cornwall Manor, Cornwall, PA. Dr. Bertram was born and raised in Berlin, Germany, and he completed medical studies at the University of Berlin at the end of World War II. After he met and married his wife, Ursula Ebert, the Bertrams left post war Germany and emigrated to the United States. He interned in Ohio and was drafted from his residency into the U.S. Army, where he served as First Lt. and then Captain in the field artillery as Batallion Surgeon, during the Korean War. Following his service and honorable discharge, he completed his residency in Radiology at Yale University in New Haven, CT. In 1965, he joined the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon and over the course of 30 years, served as Chairman of the Radiology Dept., President of the Medical Staff and President of the Lebanon Medical Society. He was a consultant to the Lebanon VA Medical Center and an Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Penn State University in Hershey. Over the years, Dr. Bertram worked as a translator for various medical publishing houses in Germany. He traveled extensively with his wife and they retired in Boca Raton, FL in 2002. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, and daughters, Angela B., wife of James E. Carrington and Sandra B. Johnson, both of Wilmington, DE; a son, Jeff M., husband of Lorri Bertram of Celebration, FL; and 6 grandsons. Memorial service Thursday, March 24, 2005, in St. Luke Lutheran Church, Schaefferstown, followed by interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. [Harrisburg Patriot-News]
