Horace was the son of Erastus and Catherine (Chrisman) Barto. Horace fought in the Spanish-American War from May 7, 1898 to December 19, 1898. He served in the US Army Infantry, First Delaware Regiment, Company A. In 1918 he was working in Eddystone, Pa. as a pipefitter. Later Horace was a decorator.
