He was captured at Trenton, TN on 12/20/1862 but was paroled and exchanged. Presumed captured with the regiment at Union City, TN on 3/24/1864, he spent time in Andersonville Prison in Georgia. He died in prison in Savannah, GA on 10/25/1864. The son of Wm and Caroline Hammett Carey, he was brother to Alexander (#473683) and Felix Carey (#108324065).
