Was born in Simpson County, Kentucky, May 5, 1870; married Frankie S. Reed, daughter of King D. Reed and Lizzie Reed, August 12, 1891, the Reverend V.K. Witt officiating. Frankie was born February 15, 1873 near Shady Grove Church and later became a member. They owned and lived on a farm in the Salmons community, where their four daughters were born. Later on, the family moved to Portland, Tennessee, and they lived there for a number of years, then bought a place in Orrville, Alabama, where they resided until they decided to go to Morganton, North Carolina to live with their third daughter, Hallie Reed, and her husband, Burand McGinnnis. Elbridge was a good farmer, very successful with cattle and stock of all kinds, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the various activities usually indulged in on a farm. For the last twenty years or so of his life, he was in a wheelchair, as his lower limbs were unable to function. It was thought to be from rheumatic fever probably, in his youth, but his physicians never understood what the affliction really was. On the 6th of April, 1950, his spirit took flight and he was laid to rest in Morganton, North Carolina.
