Son of Stephen Bennett and Mary Ann Sparkes, husband of Emma Elizabeth Jenkins whom he married on August 9, 1882 and father of Stephen Walter Bennett. Husband of Mary Hannah Thorne whom he married on December 4, 1887, and father of Mary Emma, Maxwell Nelson, Elsie, Raymond and Edna Bennett.

He died at the age of 54 years.
