Abandon Intensive Search For Mrs. Hiram Larson, Missing Woman

Intensive search for Mrs. Hiram Larson, 58, Cato woman who disappeared from her home early last Saturday morning and who it was believed ended her life by jumping into the river near the Oslo dam, has been abandoned, with no trace having been found of her. In addition to dragging the river, along whose banks footprints of the missing woman were found in the soft earth, clumps of woods were searched as well as all barns and outbuildings in the vicinity of the Larson home.

There is a strong belief that while mentally deranged she may have hidden away in some out of the way place, but searchers have thus far not been able to find trace of her. However, relatives will continue their efforts in hopes of clearing up the mystery of Mr. Larson's disappearance.

Still Missing

Aid of over 1,000 police and sheriff departments in middle-western states has been sought in the efforts to locate Mrs. Hiram Larson, 58 year old Oslo resident who disappeared from her farm home three weeks ago tomorrow morning. A reward of $200 for information leading to her whereabouts has been posted by her husband.

Mrs. Larson is described as being 58 years of age, five feet seven inches tall, weighs about 150 pounds and her dark hair is becoming gray. She is believed to have worn a dark dress and, possibly, a man's coat at the time she left the residence.

Relatives believe that she may be suffering from amnesia and wandered away after several weeks of dragging the Manitowoc river failed to result in the discovery of her body. A search of woods in the vicinity of the home west of Oslo was fruitless.

MRS. H. LARSON IS FOUND MILES FROM HER HOME

Farm Worker Finds Body Resting on Rock in River To End Long Search

A second violent death victim to be found on the Oscar Wrolson farm in the town of Manitowoc Rapids within the past several years was located this morning when the lifeless body of Mrs. Hiram Larson, 58-year-old Cato Route 1, resident, who disappeared from her home early on the morning of November 21, was discovered floating in the Manitowoc river flowing through the farm. The discovery was made by Theodore Osulson, living on a nearby farm, and he reported the finding of the body to county authorities shortly after 8 o'clock this morning.

Belief of relatives that Mrs. Larson had ended her life in the river soon after she disappeared from her home was borne out with the finding of the body after weeks of effort in dragging the river above and below the Oslo dam had proved to be fruitless. When found, the body was resting on a rock and would probably have floated down the river when the dam was again opened as it took little effort to dislodge the body from its resting place. The remains were found about three miles down the river from the family home in the township of Cato.

Believed Amnesia Victim

At the time Mrs. Larson disappeared relatives expressed the fear that she may have become a victim of amnesia and walked away. She had been in ill health for some time previous to her disappearance and relatives had expressed concern over her condition. When she left her home she was believed to have placed a light coat over her shoulders and then walked out into the night, the discovery of her body this morning indicating that she walked or fell into the river.

When dragging operations, aided by the coast guardsmen at Two Rivers and deputy sheriffs of the county, failed to result in the discovery of the body, aid of authorities in all middle western states was sought and a reward of $200 for information leading to the discovery of her whereabouts was posted by the husband. The reward will be paid over to Theodore Osulson.

Body Well Preserved

Althouth the body was believed to have been in the river for about 30 days, it showed little deterioration and there were no marks to indicate that Mrs. Larson had suffered any accident or injury.

Sheriff Herman Carstens and Coroner W.G. Kemper were at the scene soon after being notified and they in turn informed relatives of the dead woman of the discovery of the body.

The finding of the body on the farm was the second in several years on the property. Oscar Wrolson now serving an 18 year term in Waupun for the murder of his wife after a jury in Circuit court here had found him guilty of murder in the second degree.

Life Long Resident

Mrs. Larson, nee Clara Larson, was a life-long resident of Manitowoc county and was born at Madsen Station 58 years ago.

Besides the widower, she is survived by two sisters in Chicago and a brother and sister in Manitowoc county.

Funeral services are expected to be held Wednesday afternoon from the family home with interment at the Gjerpen church cemetery.
