Viewing for Charles Curtis Dodd Jr. was from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov 29, 2002 at the Virgil T. Golden Funeral Home, 605 Commercial Street SE, Salem, OR.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov 30, 2002 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 590 Elma Ave. SE. The family was in the fellowship hall after the service, to share memories.

Family interment was at Belcrest Memorial Park, 1295 Browning Ave. S., Salem, OR.

Mr. Dodd went to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday, Nov 23, 2002. He was born in Checotah, OK, to Cleo and Charles Curtis Dodd Sr. and was a 1936 graduate of Sapulpa High School. He attended Tulsa Business College, then became a captain in the Eighth Army Air Force, piloting B-24 bombers during World War II. He received an air medal for exceptionally meritorious achievement while participating in heavy bombardment missions over enemy-occupied Europe. He completed 14 missions.
Before going overseas, he asked Edna Ruth Cheshire, of Sapulpa, OK, to marry him -- they were married on Dec 4, 1943.

After returning from the war, they moved to Aberdeen, Wash. where he worked for a small oil company. In 1957 he moved to Salem, Ore. and went into partnership with Larry Moore to buy The Commercial Bookstore, later changing the name to Commercial Business Supply. They sold that business in 1973.
For many years, Mr. Dodd had been involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Anisworth Chapter No. 176, now Trinity No. 175. He was a past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, also a past Grand Worthy Patron of Oregon. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 7576. He belonged to many civic organizations, including Rotary, the Lions Club, Shriners and Boy Scouts of America.
He was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed Playing golf, working with his H.O. trains, playing with his grandchildren, watching football on TV, playing bridge and walking in Bush Park and ballroom dancing with Edna.

He was proceeded in death by his brother Richard Dodd, sister Margaret Dodd and great-granddaughter Natalie Kay.
Survivors include his wife, daughters and sons-in-law Lynda and Dennis Burrage, of Salem, OR, and Marilyn and Alan Porter, of Sheridan, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
