Jacob's original family plot was at Odd Fellows Cemetery, deed 2786 dated May 17, 1850. Jacob buried from Palmer Vault in Cedar Hill on 16 April, 1878. At the same time two infants and one young child were removed from the Odd Fellows plot and buried with Jacob at Cedar Hill.

A son-in-law, Dr D L Fleming was interred in 1881 and two adult children who were later buried in the Odd Fellows plot were removed to Cedar Hill cemetery in 1922.

Wife Lavinia/Lavina C. Phillips is not shown on the cemetery cards for this plot, however her death certificate indicates she was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery on 12 Jul 1899, after her death on 9 July. She also appears on the single tombstone on the plot with Jacob and two children.

Jacob had several occupations. He started as a coal dealer in Kensington, later became a tax collector while living in the 18th Ward, and finally as a hotel/tavern keeper in the 9th Ward.
