Mrs. Osman Larson, 84, was fatally burned Tuesday afternoon at her home, 826 N. Sixth street, when her clothing caught fire from a garbage burner attached to the kitchen range. She died at Holy Family hospital at 7 o'clock last night.
Dr. Theodore Teitzgen, county coroner, said there would be no inquest. Dr. Teitgen said that Mrs. Larson apparently poured water into the barbage (sic) burner and the resulting explosion showered her with flames. After running out of the house, she returned to the kitchen, then ran outside again, the coroner said. Her screams attracted the attention of neighbors and her sons, Oscar and Hiram Larson, who threw snow on her to smother the flames. Oscar was working in the basement and Hiram, a captain in the Manitowoc fire department, was in the garage. She was taken to the hospital in the county ambulance which was pressed into service by the police whose ambulance was out on another call. Dr. Teitgen said that third degree burns covered Mrs. Larson's body. The shock and burns caused her death. She lived for about four hours after being removed to the hospital.
