Clarence William "Bill" Cook, 72, of 2731 Highway 96 North, Ursa, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 2, 2010) in his home.

He was born July 23, 1937, in Niota, a son of Robert Martin and Fannie Jane Farris Cook. On Aug. 1, 1959, he married Margaret Boden in Quincy. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2009. She survives.

Clarence, or "Bill," as he was known, was employed as a transmission mechanic for most of his years. He also worked as a welder at Awerkamp Machine in Quincy until his retirement in 1989.

Bill loved his family more than anything else. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent his life fishing, trapping and hunting----especially coon hunting. He enjoyed family reunions, cooking and singing. Bill loved country music, and he sang and played the guitar for many years with his brothers and friends.

He was a member of Grandview Baptist Church in Quincy.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Laura Willing and her husband, Gary, of Quincy, Martin Cook and his wife, Carrie, of Golden, Rodney Cook and his wife, Sharilyn, of Loraine, and Janet Thompson and her husband, Walter, of Quincy; 11 grandchildren, Michael and Marlee Asher, Matthew Willing, Caleb, Brandon, Jordan, Ryan, Zachary and Amber Cook, Morgan Evans, and Desiree Hicks; three great-grandchildren, Andre, Noah, and Maelyn Emeka; and three brothers, Robert Cook and his wife, Pat, of Plainville, Warren Cook and his wife, Norma, and Marvin Cook and his wife, Dee, all of Mendon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and five sisters.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy, with the Pastor Bob Cook conducting. Burial will be in West Point (Ill.) Cemetery.

VISITATION: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Quincy.
