WILLIE ABRAMS, 35, OXFORD SUCCUMBS

Willie Abrams, 35 of 6625 Contreras Rd, Oxford,
died Saturday at Mercy Hospital. He had been ill
since suffering a heart attack last July and was
hospitalized previously.
He was born in Berea, KY the eldest son of William A
and Viola Crane Abrams. Shortly after birth he came
to the Hamilton area with his family and received
his education in the public schools. He attended
Reily High School.
Before enlisting in the military service, Dec 9,
1943, he was employed by the champion Paper and
Fibre Co. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp in
Cincinnati and received basic training at Parris
Island, SC.
He was sent overseas, Aug 4, 1944 as a corp
in the 4th Marine Division and landed at Iwo Jima,
Feb 19, 1945. He also saw combat in the battle of
the Volcano Islands, March 16, 1945.
On April 9, 1946, he returned to the US and was
honorably discharged April 25, at Great Lakes, IL.
On July 23, 1947 he married Mary Ellen Hoffmann
and to this union were born three sons and two
daughters. The couple lived six years in Hamilton
and the last seven in Oxford.
Since 1947, Mr. Abrams was employed as an inspector
at the Hamilton Fisher Body Div and previously had
worked with the Ford Motor Co. He was a member of the
Local 233, United workers.
One of his chief interests was participation in the
Butler co. Saddle Horse club. He was active in this
Org as long as his health permitted.
Mr. Abrams dedicated his life to the welfare of his
home and family. Besides the widow, Mrs. Mary Ellen Abrams,
he leaves three sons; Gregory, Stephen and Berry, two
daughters, Pamela and Theresa at home. Two brothers,
George and Kenneth, both of Dayton and a sister,
Mrs. Barbara Ann Hendricks of Hamilton. The paternal
grandparents, Mr and Mrs. Mart Abrams and maternal
grandparents, Ed Crone, all of Berea, KY.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Michael J.
Colligan Funeral Home, followed by Requiem High Mass
in St. Mary Church, Oxford. Burial at St. Mary's
Cemetery in Hamilton.
