Ruth M. Cothern, age 82 of Marengo passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus following a short illness.
Born in Columbus on January 16, 1931 to the late Herman and Myrtle (Koontz) Clark, she had worked as cleaning aid for both Grant and Mt. Carmel Hospitals. She moved to the Marengo area in 1975 from Columbus and enjoyed gardening, the craft of ceramics, and crocheting. Both ornery and stubborn, she was most generous and loving. A member of the Apostolic Christian Church, she was devoted to every endeavor, especially her family. Ruth will be remembered for her warm smile and gregarious belly laugh.
Ruth married Guy Cothern Jr. in Greenup, Kentucky in 1948, together they cleared a patch of land and built a home, which she dearly loved. They shared 56 wonderful years until his passing in 2004.
She is survived by son Timothy Cothern of Marengo, 5 grandchildren : Dani (Clarence) Rice whom she raised, Lynn (Jerry) Coleman, step-grandchildren Matthew, Gabriel, Richard Woods, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, brother William Clark of London, sister Naomi Thompson of Mt. Gilead, and nephew Bill (Monica) Clark.
She was also preceded in death by sons Guy E. "Butch" III, Robert in 2003, grandson Robert in 2012, brothers Robert, James, and Herman Clark Jr., sister Virginia Clark, and half-brother Ronnie Clark.
Friends may call one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral services on Tuesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 229 in Marengo, where Brother Don Mann will officiate. Burial will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery.
