The funeral of Oscar J. Chaney, prominent resident of the Third Ward who died suddenly Tuesday afternoon took place Wednesday at 5 o'clock from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Claude Sims, 2025 Mulberry Street, with many relatives and friends in attendance. Services were held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Istrouma, and he was laid to rest in the Magnolia Cemetery.

Mr. Chaney was stricken suddenly Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock while he was working in his garden. He fell to the ground unconscious and breathed his last before neighbors could carry him into the house. He had apparently been in good health up to the time that he was stricken.

Mr. Chaney, who was 48 years of age, had been a lifelong resident of the Third ward. The family home is in Pierce's Lane. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Franklin Chaney.

He leaves his wife, who was formerly Miss Ida Browning, and seven daughters. His only son, Lindsay, was accidently drowned two summers ago in the Comite river.
Mr. Chaney leaves, besides his wife and daughters, a sister, Mrs. Walter Bourke, the former Miss Lena Chaney, and five brothers, Anthony, George, Leon, Elmo and Joseph Chaney, all of this city, and many friends.
