Herman was a member of the Texas State Guard and United States Navy. He worked at Southern Union Gas Company and retired in 1981. He was also a member of The Sons of Hermann.
Mr. Achilles is survived by his wife Kathleen "Kitty" Achilles; his two daughters Deborah Ragsdale and husband Dean, Lesa Randall; two sisters Hazel Thomas, Bess Allred; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 17th of April, 2013, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with U.S. Military Honors, Austin, Texas.
