Obituary from the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen, Thursday, December 16, 1999.
Betty Jane Mittelstadt, 77, 120 James St., Beaver Dam, passed away at University Hospitals, Madison, on Tuesday, December 14, 1999, surrounded by her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Fr. John Simon will officiate. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Dam.
Betty was born at 133 Roedl Court, Beaver Dam, on November 15, 1922, a daughter of Frank and Caroline (Ptaschinski) Kennedy. She attended the old Washington grade school, and later worked as a domestic. She was married to Franklin B. Mittelstadt on January 18, 1942, at Fort Lewis, Washington. After the war she lived for a time in the Veteran's Housing in Beaver Dam with her growing family, and in 1953 moved into the home on James St., where she has resided since.
She was a tireless, devoted mother, and inspired in her large family the qualities of loyalty, honest labor and discipline. Betty enjoyed card playing, cooking, crochet, bowling and solving crosswords. She was a true fan of the Packers and Brewers, and her knowledge of sports was remarkable. As her children were growing she became involved in Boy Scout and Girls Scout activities. She was a member of the Beaver Dam Senior Citizens and the AARP. She also had been a member of the Dodge County Central Labor Council Auxiliary, and had served as its president. Betty planned the menus and cooked for many weddings and other events at the Labor Temple in Beaver Dam, which activities endeared her to, and earned her the respect of, many long-time friends. She made the best pie crusts in the world.
She is survived by her husband, Frank, Beaver Dam; nine children, Carol (Orin) Rea of rural Watertown, Wis., Linda (Thomas) Abel, Waunakee, Wis., Mary (Dennis) Fermenich, New Berlin, Wis., Bob Mittelstadt, town of Fox Lake, Gina (Ray) Weickert, Las Vegas, Nev., Frank Mittelstadt Jr., Beaver Dam, Janet Mittelstadt, Milwaukee, Donna (Daniel) Adams, Tobinsport, Ind., and Beverly Mittelstadt, Cape Cod, Mass.; two brothers, Robert (June) Kennedy of Silver Spring, Md., and Roland (Helen) Kennedy of Clyman, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Steve Buth, Michael, Daniel and Ashley Abel, Justin and Kari Fermenich, Madeline and Matthew Mittelstadt, and Isabel Adams; many nephews, nieces, other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marie Benter; six brothers, Donald in infancy, Wilbert "Rusty", Jerome "Lefty", Harold "Howie", Bernie and Lawrence "Joe"; and one grandson, Frank Buth.
Friends may call at the Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, on Saturday, Dec. 16, from 9 to 11 a.m., with services following.
