Patrick Shawn Whalen

U.S. Veteran Patrick Shawn Whalen, of 242 Grant Street, Sharon, PA passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 7:48 a.m. after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 57. He was born in Sharon, PA on November 13, 1955, the son of the late Patrick J. and Donna (Anderson) Whalen. He was a 1973 graduate of Sharon High School and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Sciences from Slippery Rock University. He also was a graduate of the PA State Police Academy. Patrick had served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Enterprise from 1976-1977. He had worked as Corporal with at PA State Police Department, Mercer, PA, for 23 years before retiring.. After retirement, he worked for Fidelity Courier Service in Sharon, and most recently for SEB Security as supervisor of the Pittsburgh division. Pat ran the Girls Softball Program at Patagonia Field for several years. He was a certified firearms instructor with the PA State Police Dept.. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was of the Catholic faith. He was the husband of Terry Lynn (Kahler) Whalen, whom he married on July 15, 1976. She survives at home. Also surviving are his daughter, Constance C. Whalen , at home and his sons, P. Jeremy Whalen and his wife, Kate, of Sharpsville, PA, and Christopher C. Whalen and his fiance', Jessica Abinosa of Hermitage, PA, and his grandchildren Killian P. and Lillian G. Whalen, and his 8 sisters, Colleen Eskridge and her husband, Robert, of Boone, NC., Faith Eileen Fedor and her husband, Shawn, of Slippery Rock, PA, Michaeleen Miller, and her husband, Lynn, of Sharon,PA, Donna "DeeDee" Drake and her husband, Will, of Slippery Rock,PA, Laureen Brown, and her husband William, of Dayton, OH., Janeen Mancino and her husband, Robert, of Hermitage, PA., Bernadeen "Birdie" Whalen and her fiance', Van Michael, of Sharpsville, PA, and Patricia "Kiki" Whalen and her fiance', Earl Simpson II of Sharon, PA. along with his 5 brothers, Daniel P. Whalen and his wife, Brenda, of Warren, OH, John Jarrett Whalen and his fiance', Mandi McCrea, of Mercer, PA., Terence A. Whalen and his wife Michelle, of Mercer, PA., Frederick J. Whalen and his wife, Marcie, of Sharon, PA, and Brian W.T. Whalen of Sharon, PA. Several nieces and nephews also survive including Matthew Kahler, of Hermitage, PA and Richard Kahler, of Taylor, Michigan, of whom he was instrumental in their lives. Besides his parents, he was preceeded in death by an infant sister, Denni Kathleen Whalen, and a nephew, Russell Kahler. Donations in his memory may be made to the Patagonia Girls Softball Program, c/o Jarrett Whalen, 118 N. Pitt St., Mercer, PA 16137. Friends are invited to call Thursday, April 18, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9:00p.m.. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima-St.Ann's Catholic Church, Farrell, PA. at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 19th, 2013 with Rev. Donald Berdis officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, PA, with burial honors provided by the PA State Police Honor Guard.
