Robert Niemann, age 86, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Friday, July 25, 2008, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Robert Niemann were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag, of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. There was a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Robert Frederick Niemann was born on January 13, 1922, in Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Johanna (Kuethe) Niemann. He graduated from Tripoli High School. Robert proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.

In 1946, he was married Margaret Foelske. They later divorced. Robert later married Marguerite Bayless in 1968. He farmed for many years, worked at Rath Packing and drove truck. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Robert enjoyed ice fishing, gardening and spending winters in Arizona.

He is survived by three children: Gary Niemann of Waverly, Iowa, Gordon Niemann of Charles City, Iowa, and Bonnie Jo (Harold) Marth of Rockford, Iowa; by a step-son, Ron Bayless of California; and a granddaughter, Lisa Niemann of Waverly, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife; and by a step son.
