James M. Arnett, former resident of Bethel, North of Athens, died Wednesday night at his home in Corsicana. Mr. Arnett was a farmer and merchant and resided North of Athens for several years. He was well known in Henderson county.
He is survived by seven sons, R.E. Arnett, Dallas; Frank Arnett, Corsicana; Riley G. Arnett, Bastrop, La.; Harrison S. Arnett, Murchison; Lilliard Arnett, Dallas; Albert L. Arnett, Trinidad; Fowler Arnett, Ft. Worth; and four daughters, Mrs. Allie Lake, Corsicana; Mrs. Rowena Clark, Ft. Worth; Misses Julia and Mildred Arnett of Corsicana. Twenty-four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, one brother and four sisters also survive.
Mr. Arnett was born in Woodbury, Tennessee, May 29, 1866, son of Dr. and Mrs. James E. Arnett. He came to Texas in 1900 and had resided in Henderson and Navarro counties since. He moved to Corsicana after retiring in 1940. His wife, the former Miss Delia Fowler of Woodbury, Tennessee, died March 7, 1942. He joined the Methodist Church when just a boy and attended Church and Sunday School, taking an active part in the work of his church just as long as his health would permit.
Services were held at the Eleventh Ave. Methodist Church, Corsicana, Thursday at 5 p.m. by Rev. W.R. Beard, the pastor. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery.
All the children were at his bedside when he died. He had been in ill health since he suffered a stroke about two years ago.
