Alfred Christensen
Alfred Christensen, 84, died Feb. 5, 1997. He was born Feb. 1, 1913 in Hayden, the son of Carl and Kristine Nielsen Christensen. He married Eva Gadd Feb. 8, 1935 in Duchesne. Seven children were born of this union - Bill, Keith, Nancy, Lynn, Ray, Kelly and Linda.
Alfred spent his adult life farming and ranching on different ranches in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Some of these properties were owned by such notables as Dinah Shore, John Wayne, Jack Benny and the Knotts Berry Farm heirs. During his days, ranch hands trained their own horses from the remuda. His two favorites, Strawberry and Buster, not only did their work as cattle horses, but also won him some money in the roping arena.
Outside of working and raising his family, he enjoyed fly fishing and hunting. His children recall their family fishing trips. The kids would fish their hearts out along the river with worms as bait, not catching a thing. Then, along would come dad, fly pole in hand and catch enough fish for supper. Hard for a bunch of youngsters to understand but they enjoyed the fish.
Alfred and Eva retired and moved to Missouri in 1980, where they bought their first home. He finally came to a time in his life where he could relax, not work so hard and enjoy an easier life. His great passion became "Taterhole"
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He is survived by his wife Eva, of Salem; five children, Nancy Wickam and husband, John, of Kansas, Lynn Christensen and wife Carolee, of Wyoming, Ray Christensen and wife, Glenda of Colorado; Kelly Christensen and wife, Joan, of California; Linda Hernandez and husband, Tony, of North Carolina; one brother, Elvie Christensen of Montana; one daughter-in-law, Ida Christensen of New Mexico; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; two sons, William Alfred and John Keith Christensen; five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Feb. 8, at James & Gahr Chapel with Kendall H. Jacobs, Richard C. Wilson and Glen Roberts officiating.
Music was provided by Duetta Edwards as pianist and Jack and Rachel Lewis as vocalists.
Pallbears were Ernie Gomez, David Wickam, Tony Hernandez, John Wickam, Rick Wickam and Brad Wickam.
Interment was in the North Lawn Cemetery at Salem, Missouri.
