Married, first, Richard Hamilton Taylor, in 1899 (divorced c. 1905).

Child:
1. Elizabeth Hamilton, b. 1901, d. 1988; m. Frank Victor Shellenback.

Virginia was shot and killed by Ambrose Franklin Fenton, who then committed suicide. The two had posed as husband and wife in Washington, but were not legally married; Frank was already married to another woman. He was buried in Asbury Park, NJ. At first, it was thought by his New Jersey family that a different Frank Fenton had killed Virginia, but later Ambrose's body was identified by his wife.
