Wanda L. Caruthers died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at her residence. She was 50.

Born in Baltimore, Md., Wanda had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 39 years. She received her associate's degree in banking and finance from Hinds Junior College and was a graduate of the Ole Miss School of Banking and the Southeastern School of Banking at Vanderbilt University. She was a former employee of First National and Trustmark National banks and was vice president of BancorpSouth for a number of years.

Wanda served her community as past president of the Exchange Club of Vicksburg, past chair of the Warren County March of Dimes, vice president of the Board of Directors of the Child Abuse Prevention Center and president of Clear Creek Ladies Golf and Vicksburg Country Club Ladies Golf. An avid golfer, Wanda won the 2012 Ladies' Warren County Golf Championship.

She was active in the United Way for more than 22 years. She served as commercial chair for the Campaign Cabinet for 2010-2011, when she received the 2010 Leadership Award. She served as account manager and account associate and was always willing to lend a hand to help others "Live United."

Wanda was a member of the Vicksburg-Warren Chamber of Commerce, serving as an ambassador. She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, serving on several committees including the Board of Trustees and co-chaired the Worship Committee with her husband, Mike.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Caruthers; two sons, Josh and Rusty Geter, both of Vicksburg; her mother, Joani Walker Thompson of Seattle, Wash.; and a brother, Joe Walker (Rita) of Phoenix, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Walker; and a brother, James Vernon Walker.

Services will be at noon Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Crawford Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cary Stockett, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service. Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Lee Giffin, the staff of Hospice Advantage, and John Storey and the staff of Battlefield Drugs for the love and care given to Wanda during her illness.

Memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 1408 Cherry St., Vicksburg, MS 39180, or to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Mitchell, Bobby Burks, Keith Melancon, Chris Collins, Dr. Lee Giffin, B.J. Presley, Kathryn Loyacono, Shara Grant, Cynthia Freeny and Jackie McKay.
