Mr. Escartin was a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico and had lived in Augusta since 1962. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years, serving in Korea and Viet Nam and retired from the Augusta Police Department after 15 years of service. He was a faithful volunteer and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and recipient of the Bishop Gartland Service Award in 2001.
