Manuel A. Vara, born March 5, 1950, went to be with His Lord on April 20, 2013, at the age of 63.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, Manuel attended Antonian College Preparatory Catholic High School and St. Mary's University. He graduated with a BA in Political Science and a MA in Clinical Psychology, and was a proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Manuel served his community as a Licensed Professional Counselor, a member of the Flour Bluff Volunteer Fire Department and the USAA Hurricane Disaster Response Team. He was a loyal servant to his faith community through involvement with the ACTS and Journey to Damascus retreats and through numerous ministries at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Other activities that brought Manuel joy were fishing, backpacking, running, scripture study and music.
Manuel is predeceased by his parents, Manuel Castro Vara and Mary Anne Chavarria Vara. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Eileen Wood Vara and his daughters, Kerith (Cody) Stanton of San Antonio and Sara (Joseph) Busti of Corpus Christi. He holds a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren, Aiden Rush Busti and Harper Grace Stanton. Manuel is also survived by his brothers, Edward (Corrine) Vara and Mark (Susan) Vara, as well as aunts, Alicia Vara, Henrietta Vara, and Dolores Villarreal. He is affectionately remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
A Rosary was held Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2233 Waldron, Corpus Christi, TX.
