Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late William Luther Crane, Sr. and Lois Middleton Crane.
Mr. Crane served in the U.S. Naval Air Corp and was retired from Milliken, where he worked as plant engineer. He attended Berea First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mattie Finley Crane; three children, Gloria Phillips (Jerry) of Orange City, FL, Janice McClure (Curtis) of Greenville, and Debbie Gallagher (Clarence) of Greenville; one son-in-law, Charlie Garren of Myrtle Beach; seven grandchildren, Tony Goodnough, Melanie Staudt, Sherri Hackney, Pam Szczypinski, Ray Hammond, Richard Gallagher, Jeffrey Gallagher; and 13 great grandchildren.
Mr. Crane was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Garren; a granddaughter, Cristin Hammond Schuch; and a sister, Frances Wood.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 6, 2010 from 1:00 - 2:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
