Judge Nicol's Sister Dies at Columbia
Mrs. Susan Johnson died at her home near Columbia last Monday morning, after a protracted illness. The deceased was a woman of high character and was greatly beloved by a wide circle of friends. Her illness was the result of injuries sustained in a train wreck occurring several years ago while she was making a trip to Seattle.
The deceased was a native of Scotland, coming to California when a child of 10 years of age with her sturdy pioneer parents, having a residence of 57 years in the State and 49 years in Columbia. She is survived by a son, Colin Johnson of Columbia, and three daughters, Mrs. Maggie Daniels of Pasadena, Mrs. Alice Layton of San Francisco, and Mrs. Beatrice Brown, who resides in Michigan, and a brother, Hon. G. W. Nicol. Another brother, one of the most prominent attorneys and gifted orators on the coast, died a few years ago.
The funeral was conducted from the home Wednesday, interment being in the Columbia public cemetery. Rev. Samuel Harris, pastor of the Sonora Presbyterian church officiated. The pall-bearers were: J. W. Pitts, O. J. Doyle, M. Ellis, M. Brady, Frank Dondero, Windsor Prescott.
